Where, oh where, has my little dog gone?
I knew it would happen. I knew that it wouldn't take long for Cash to find his way out to sniff around his new hometown. And today was the day! It happened during naptime. I was getting the kids snack and noticed the gate wide opened. I called for the kids to hope in the van and off we went. Lizzie said she was going to yell his name really loud, but sat silent. We all did. We had no idea where to look. He could've gone anywhere. We asked a few joggers and beach beauties then decided the bike was the way to go. So, back home, out of the van and into the bike trailer. Off we went. The first people we asked, "Have you seen a large black dog with an orange collar?". Large fisherman guy replies, "Yeah, about 30 minutes ago, wondered why he wasn't on a leash." Me, "Oh, well, it's his free day. You know, to run around, sniff and pee all over the beach." Pedal, pedal, pedal. All the way down to Gould's Inlet. Well, it's only 7 blocks, but remember I got that trailer with toddlers fighting. I get there and ask the first old lady I see. She proceeds to tell me about all the dogs she has seen. I tell her mine would have been going crazy, running with his head down, sniffin', and seriously, going crazy. She tells me, "Oh, yeah, I saw him." We take a look at the beach and see no dogs and decide to ride back down to the Coast Guard Station, where all the people are. Luckily for us, this is when our search ends. My legs were thrilled to see our big black dog with an orange collar standing right in the middle of Bruce Drive. I start blowing the whistle like a crazy person and waving my arms at him. He "heels" all the way home and is now resting safe and sound on the rug. I am pretty impressed that he went out for a 45 minute run and, it seems, came back up the same beach access he used to explore. I just hope next time he will leave a note....
